A colleague at work gave me the number for their dentists. Rang it, got an emergency appointment for just after lunch. Can’t wait, finally it looks like someone will be able to tell me if this pain is normal.
Well, went to the dentists and they took an Xray.
Apparently, the roots of one tooth are infected and inflamed. That troublesome molar is giving it some welly. The dentist said it was widely acknowledged as one of the more painful things that can happen and it definitely wasn’t regular brace related pain. In fact, the brace pulling on the infected tooth was probably making it more consistently painful. Nice.
The nice dentist has prescribed amoxycillin for the next 5 days to try to bring the infection under control. He also thinks that I should be able to sleep tonight.

The first anti-biotic didn’t touch the sides, straight down with a Solpadeine and Voltarol chaser.
I’m looking foward to the next 5 days and the reduction of pain!
